Are you making any of these cleansing mistakes?

Today we are talking about the first step in your skincare routine.
Should be pretty simple right ? Or is it? Are you doing it right?
Let’s not over complicate things and make sure your getting the most out of this little step by ensuring sure your not making any of these ‘cleansing mistakes’.

Squeaky clean ? No thanks!

Let’s not get confused between cleaning your face and stripping your face of its natural oils. That oh so squeaky clean feeling is one to be avoided. Your cleanser should NOT contain alcohols and harsh ingredients that will give you that feeling. It’s asking for trouble in the long run and can end up being the cause of further breakouts, redness or dryness . Choosing a cleanser that will clean and nourish without stripping your skin is the first step to skin success

In a hurry ??

Are you rushing this step and not effectively cleansing your face? You should be massaging your cleanser into your face for at least 60secs before rinsing and don’t be afraid to double cleanse when wearing makeup or sunscreen.
I always recommend a double cleanse in the evening.
Firstly to remove makeup, oils and dirt and secondly to truly clean the skin.

Not so hot please

Washing your face in too hot water can lead to redness, sensitivities, increased dryness in dry skins and increased sebum in oily skins.  If you are one to wash your face in the shower I suggest turning the temp down while you do this. Super hot water will not clear and clean your pores more.

Two in one cleanser? No thanks!

Although exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells and a very important step in your skincare routine. Over exfoliating is a common issue causing increased redness, dryness, breakouts and irritation. If you are using a two in one cleanser / exfoliant it is best not to use this daily. Exfoliating should be done 2-3 times a week at most. Consider two separate products so that you are not overdoing your exfoliation.

Finding it hard to commit?

Consider your skincare routine as your own daily self care ritual and not just another thing you need to do. Once its set in your daily routine you will rarely skip it, you will be able to find the time for it everyday and if you are like me you will look forward to it very day. Find a routine that works for you and your lifestyle and commit to it.

Gentle hands please

Rubbing, picking, squeezing and rough handling will not clear up your skin or help your skincare routine at all. It’s important to use gentle hands when applying your products. Avoid dragging the skin with towels, remover pads when drying or removing products. No squeezing and most importantly if and only if you must touch your face make sure you have clean hands
